The New Solar Homes Partnership (NSHP) promotes solar in California by offering  a monetary incentive to help reduce the cost.

The incentive takes about 90 days to process after all documents have been submitted.

If there is even one error within the incentive documentation, the CEC will send it back for correction which causes delays in processing.

So Cal HERS Raters teaches you how to complete the CF-6R-PV from the CF-1R-PV.

Please make sure your customer is following the 10 Steps to NSHP, step 7 involves the HERS rater.

Quick Guide: PV Solar Verification for the installer

 What you'll need:

 Helpful Information

-Copy of CF-1R-PV    +Generated by NSHP Calculator
 -Blank CF-6R-PV    +Download CF-6R-PV
-Compass    +Must adjust for magnetic declination
-Digital Level & tripod    +Both available at Sears.com
-Thermometer    +Needs to measure ambient temp.
 -Pyronometer    +Such as DayStar
-Shade analysis tool    +SolarPathfinder.com & SolmetricSunEye
 -Tape Measure    +Standard tape measure

NSHP PV Verification Process

 Visual Inspection/Verification

 Helpful Information

-Verify equipment model #'s  -Match field model #'s to CF-1R-PV
 -Check if California Flexible Install  -150° - 270°, 4:12 - 7:12
-Verify array tilt & azimuth  -Use compass and level

 Performance Diagnostics

 -Measure solar irradiance  -Use Pyronometer
-Measure ambient temp in the shade  -Use Thermometer
-Verify output meets or exceeds FVT  -Field Verification Table from CF-1R-PV

 Shading Analysis

-Check if minimally shaded  -Minimal shade means 'no shade'.
-Verify 2:1 D/H ratio of roof obstructions  -If roof is causing shade
-Verify D/H ratio or altitude angle of trees  -If trees are an issue
-Verify D/H ratio of existing/planned bldgs  -If any planned or existing buildings exist

Documenting on CF-6R-PV

Photovoltaic System

 A. Fill in Meter Model Number or write 'Built into Inverter' in box
 B. Fill in Inverter Model Number in appropriate box
 C. Fill in Module Model Numbers in appropriate box
 D. Fill in Series modules in each string, # of Strings, & Total mods

Installation Specifications

 1. Fill in Azimuth from compass & write 'Compass' in "Method Used"
 2. Fill in Roof Pitch or Tilt of install & write 'Digital Level' in "Method Used"
 3. Fill in Standoff Height in appropriate box &  "Method Used" ie. Visual- 4" @ lowest
 4. Fill in Mounting Height in box & "Method Used" ie. Visual- Two Story Home

Performance Specifications

 5. Fill in Solar Irradiance and "Method Used" ie. Daystar Pyronometer 834 W/m2
 6. Fill in Ambient Temperature and "Method Used" ie. Digital Thermometer 82°
 7. Look up expected output from FVT by crossing Ambient Temperature and Solar
Irradiance to determine minimal expected output. Fill in expected output in
box from the FVT within the CF-1R-PV.
 8. Fill in watt output displayed at inverter within 1 minute of taking irradiance.
 9. Was Minimal Shading used on CF-1R-PV, write YES or NO in box.
10.If any Existing and planned trees causing shade, data should be in table.
11.If shading exists, check that it meets the 2:1 distance to height criteria.

In-Field Shading Confirmation Table

If there are any shading obstructions they should be listed in the In-Field Shading
confirmation table. Use the Solar Pathfinder or SunEye to verify.
